... part of the Oakleafe Rambling Club (founded 2004)
The Oakleafe walking groups specialise in half-day Guided events, although we usually list 2 or 3 Day walks per year.
In 2009 we arranged our first Rambling weekend ~ 4-days on the Isle of Wight. This was followed in 2010 AND in 2011 with 4-days of walking on the Jurassic Coast ~ from Swanage in Dorset. The plan is to offer something simialr again this September, but probably from a different location.
For more information, please visit www.oakleafe.co.uk.
Our programme of events for coming months is published on that website. Some of our Sussex walks and Nordic fitness walks can also be found in the EXPLORING EAST SUSSEX publication produced by East Sussex County Council. This does not include all of our events.
We have recently set up www.oakleafeeastsussex.clubbz.com (and a Surrey and Nordic Walking equivalent)
In 2009 and 2010 we arranged typically two Saturday afternoon walks a month in Surrey and East Sussex; a monthly Sunday afternoon walk and a fortnightly Tuesday morning walk in Surrey ... AND some Thursday morning walks in Sussex. We also offer Nordic Walks in a Group, and occasional Taster sessions. monthly each in Surrey and in East Sussex. Between November 2008 and May 2009 our programme of events totalled 58 walks. However, November and December 2010 saw the most walks cancelled due to extreme weather > ever for this Club!
In 2011 we did a 4-Sunday daywalk series (one walk per month from May to August) to complete the Sussex Ouse Valley Way.
In 2012 the plan is to undertake the 1066 Country Trail with the 1066-Downs Link from Alfriston. This will also be May to August dates.
That full pattern of walks is set to continue during 2012.
We also offer a regular week-night hour of Nordic Walking as an evening exercise class outdoors in the Seaford area : NORDIC FITNESS. This will resume in April 2012 and generally run through to the start of September. There may also be occasional opportunities for a moonlit walk on the tops of the Downs, when it is a full moon and clear skies are forecast. That is an unforgettable experience!!
Please contact us if you wish your e-mail address to be added to our opt-in mailing Group for advance notice of Walks to Come (we do not share e-mail addresses with any third party; our unsubscribe arrangements are simple). We currently have over 50 folk receiving these briefings in Surrey, and nearly half that number for the newer Groups in East Sussex.
A sideline that seems to be developing is to arrange bespoke guided walks of 5 to 6 mile length : for family parties/birthdays/anniversaries etc.
Walk Subscriptions : We do not require an annual subscription, instead we have a per walk subscription. During 2010 these were reduced due to the good attendance at most of our walks, especially in Surrey.
For guided half day rambles, this is currently £4 per person per walk (concessionary rate for members of the Caterham U3A Walking Group of £3). For Nordic events the equivalent subscriptions is £7 per walk (where loan nordic walking poles are available). Day events are £10 per person per walk.
